

















Charles Petersen’s academic work on human serum albumin/ligand interactions at the University of Hawaii resulted in the publication of over 20 research articles in peer reviewed journals. This work was based on a molecular biology technology platform. Specifically, his laboratory was the first in the world to express a large number of recombinant human serum albumin (HSA) site-directed mutants. Biophysical studies with these mutants provided critical information on human serum albumin/ligand interactions that was not available previously. While at the University of Hawaii, Dr. Petersen received support from the American Heart Association to work on problems related to dramatically elevated heart disease risk in patients with decreased blood HSA concentrations. Dr. Petersen’s industrial experience spans 10 years. He has held high level management positions in several GMP regulated laboratories supporting pharmaceutical drug development projects. At Cardinal Health he lead a team of five scientists working on siRNA drug products in clinical trials. Most recently, he lead a large pharmaceutical team as director of the Formulations and Biopharmaceuticals Department at Irvine Pharmaceutical Services. Dr. Petersen holds two patents for his pharmaceutical inventions.
